07/28/11 UNFORGIVABLE SIN
There are two kinds of SIN (not to be confused with sins) that cannot be forgiven. One of these is a transgression for which we should not even pray (1 Jn. 5:16); the other is a condition from which we can be delivered (Ps. 24:3-4 with Ja. 4:8; Ti. 2:14; 1 Jn. 1:7, 9). Do not confuse FORGIVENESS with CLEANSING. Do not confuse SIN COMMITTED with SIN INHERENT.
1 John 5:16
16 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.
DLG note... Whatever this sin is, it is a sin that is an act of rebellion, disobedience for which there is no forgiveness or deliverance.
Psalms 24:3-4
3 Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?
4 He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.
DLG note... In order for us to come into the presence of God, we must have CLEAN HANDS. Hands represent what we do and God requires us to have a cleansing and forgiveness from personal acts of rebellion against God. We must also have PURE HEARTS. The heart represents what we are and God requires believers to have their hearts purified.
Matthew 5:8
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
Acts 15:8-9
8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;
9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.
Ephesians 5:25-27
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
1 John 3:3
3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
DLG note...
Only the pure in heart shall see God.
The heart of the believer is purified by the infilling of the Holy Spirit, which comes through faith.
While it is true that Christ died to forgive sinners, it is also true that Christ died to sanctify (purify) the Church.
Believers must accept the purification that makes us as pure as Christ
James 4:8
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
DLG note... James restates the words of Psalm 24. Notice that SINNERS (those who are still guilty of sinful behavior) are told to cleanse their hands, and the DOUBLE MINDED (the believers, the converted who have both the carnal mind and the spiritual mind) are told to purify their hearts. We purify ourselves by trusting Christ for our deliverance.
Titus 2:14
14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
DLG note... Jesus died and rose again that He might REDEEM us from all lawlessness (acts of rebellion) AND PURIFY unto Himself a distinctive people, zealous of good works. Sinners are redeemed and believers are purified. In the natural realm, birth takes place before cleansing.
1 John 1:7
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
DLG note... The word cleanse is the same as purify. The ALL SIN is the PRINCIPLE of sin, not just the ACTS of sin.
1 John 1:9
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
DLG note... He forgives us of SINS COMMITTED and He cleanses (purifies) us of ALL SIN, including SIN INHERENT.
