03/20/11 SS CLASS... 1 Corinthians 15:3-4. "According to the Scripture"

In 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Paul uses the phrase, "According to the Scriptures" two times.

These two verses and the phrase is used to address the fact that the atonement was foretold by God in the Old Testament and to explain the meaning of this event, rather than as a proof of His death and resurrection.

It had been told in prophecies and types. In other words,  the sacrificial and atoning death and the physical resurrection of Christ was the revealed plan of God from Genesis 3:15 and Job 19:25."

(3)  For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
(4)  And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Genesis 3:15
(15)  And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Job 19:25-26
(25)  For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:
(26)  And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:
