01/24/11 3 ATTITUDES TOWARD CRITICISM and ADVICE:

1- Resist, Reject, Rebuff it, since you can't be wrong and if you were, that dummy couldn't be right (good move, that will stop future critics, who wants them?);
2- Condescendingly, Contemptuously "Accept" (again, you stop the critics, who needs them?);
3- Humbly, Openly Consider, listening for God, growing in grace. The third way is the way of grace. (see notes below)

POINTS AND PASSAGES

Points 1 and 2 above are stars drifting away from fellow believers and God.
They live without accountability to others.
They are getting beyond help.
The more they refuse to humble themselves, the less others will be able to help them.

Proverbs 14:12
(12) There is a way which seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

2 Chronicles 36:16
(16) But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

Proverbs 6:15
(15) Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.

Proverbs 29:1
(1) He, that being often reproved hardens his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

Proverbs 11:14
(14) Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.

Proverbs 12:15
(15) The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkens unto counsel is wise.

Proverbs 15:20-22
(20) A wise son makes a glad father: but a foolish man despises his mother.
(21) Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walks uprightly.
(22) Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counselors they are established.

Proverbs 19:19-20
(19) A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.
(20) Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.

Proverbs 20:5
(5) Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.

Proverbs 27:9
(9) Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.
