02/17/11 FRIENDS DON'T LET FRIENDS
Sometimes there are nefarious activities on FB and hackers are determined to gain access to our FB accounts. When one person discovers such activity we try to warn our friends, in order to save them from having their web presence compromised. Even if we know the threat, we might not realize how immanent it is, because our minds are on other issues. This is why we are glad to have other people remind us of that which we already know.
On a much higher level, Peter reminded his readers of spiritual dangers that sought to hack their lives. That is why they are called, "reminders," because we know them and if we forget or lose our focus, we can easily do something we wouldn't normally do.

This is how sin sometimes gets into a person's life. The person becomes distracted or he becomes complacent and does something by reaction rather than reason.
If we know that the intruder is a hacker, we will reject him. But the hacker does not tell you he is a hacker. He deceives people into thinking they are connecting with a friend or a legitimate business, and therefore, the victim does not realize that they are being misled by a HACKER site. Similarly, a person may be led astray by false doctrines, thinking them to be true. They wouldn't be misled if they knew it was a false doctrine.
Christians have the responsibility to remind one another about the fact someone is trying to "hack" into their lives and rob them of their spiritual treasure.
Here are the verses that go with previous comment concerning Peter reminding us of basic truths. I hope y'all read the whole passage. They are very telling.
2 Peter 1:10-15 (vss. 12, 13, 15)
(10) Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
(11) For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
(12) Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.
(13) Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;
(14) Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath showed me.
(15) Moreover I will endeavor that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.
2 Peter 3:1-3
(1) This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
(2) That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Savior:
(3) Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
