10/17/11 EITHER WAY, IT IS COMING

10/17/11 EITHER WAY, IT IS COMING

Think of your departure in terms of either, "a countdown to blastoff" (rapture) or, "time is running out" (death), though both phrases are true. In either case, this earthly life will end, but we don't know when. We want to be found faithful, productive, growing. We want to do the best we can with what we have. We want to live each day, each moment, aware that our earthly life is but a vapor.

CONSIDER THIS...

When a ball game is down to the last minutes, the players give their best remaining effort.

When a term paper is due, students work feverishly to finish it.

When a concert is about to end, the audience savors every last line and note.

When a child is about to move away, the parents grasp at the fleeting moments.

When a loved one is leaving on a long journey, we strain to see them and wave, one more time.

When a loved one is about to die, we hold on as long as we can.

Since we don't know the time of our departing, we should live every day as if it is our last.
