11/14/11 Three Heartbreaking Scenarios...

11/14/11 Three Heartbreaking Scenarios...

1- Watching a loved one encounter a tragedy.
2- Watching a rescuer (doctor, fireman, emt) unable to help a loved one.
3- Watching a loved one destroy himself/herself (through attitudes, actions, associations).

I think each scenario has a deeper level of tragedy and heartbreak. Sometimes #1 and #2 cannot be helped, but #3 is the choice of the victim.

There is hope in Christ. LOOK AND LIVE.

Biblical Background and a Song.
As a judgment for their rebellion, God sent venomous serpents to attack the Israelites in the Wilderness. However, He also provided a way of deliverance. If they would only look at the Brazen Serpent raised in the midst of the camp, they would live. The bitten victims were told to, "Look and Live." (Numbers 21:4-9)

A Gospel song (written by William A Ogden) offers the same hope to those who are dying in their sins. Look to Jesus (Who died on the cross as our sacrifice, and rose again for our justification) and you shall Live. Life is not attained by works of the flesh or works of self righteousness, but life is obtained by faith in the One Who died and rose again. LOOK AND LIVE.

1. I’ve a message from the Lord, hallelujah!
This message unto you I’ll give,
’Tis recorded in His word, hallelujah!
It is only that you “look and live.”

Refrain:
“Look and live,” my brother, live,
Look to Jesus now, and live;
’Tis recorded in His word, hallelujah!
It is only that you “look and live.”

2. I’ve a message full of love, hallelujah!
A message, O my friend, for you,
’Tis a message from above, hallelujah!
Jesus said it, and I know ’tis true.

3. Life is offered unto you, hallelujah!
Eternal life thy soul shall have,
If you’ll only look to Him, hallelujah!
Look to Jesus who alone can save.

4. I will tell you how I came, hallelujah!
To Jesus when He made me whole—
’Twas believing on His name, hallelujah!
I trusted and He saved my soul.
